When it comes to selling your home, presenting it in its best light is essential. Home staging can make a significant difference in how fast your home sells and how much money you get for it. If you are considering doing some staging of your own, here are a few tips that will help you get your house prepared before putting it on the market!

Neutralize Colour
We all have individual tastes when it comes to the way we decorate our homes. When you are putting your home on the market, however, access colour and decor can be distracting to the buyer. We recommend removing personal items, like family photos, souvenirs, memorabilia and statement decor. If you'd like to add a few decor pieces, steer towards a neutral colour palette in simple styles of decorative accents. This would also be the right time to paint any bright-coloured walls a neutral colour like white, beige or grey. This new minimal look will help the home to feel clean, fresh and well put together.

Declutter Your Space
Decluttering is an essential step towards staging your home. This task comes at the perfect time because you are also planning to move! Take the time to purge your home of unneeded and unused objects that contribute to clutter and mess. This can be as simple as removing mail from the kitchen, a chair that takes up to much space in the living room, or children's toys they have grown out of using. The goal of decluttering is to help the buyer envision their life in this space, this can be hard to do with clutter in the way of seeing the whole picture.

Clean and Tidy
Before showing your home, make sure it's clean, fresh and put together. We suggest dusting, vacuuming and making sure surfaces are cleaned and free of clutter. Open windows to let in the fresh air, and add fresh flowers or plants to the rooms to add some colour and life to the space.

Do Repairs
Before putting your house on the market, it is essential to repair any visible damage within your home. This may be broken floor tiles, marks or dents in the wall, light fixtures that no longer work etc etc. It is important to have these imperfections fixed because these small cosmetic damages will be noticed by the buyers when they are viewing your home during a showing.

Highlight Your Home's Best Features
Take a close look at your furniture placement within the common areas of your home and make sure it's inviting and functional. Arrange furniture in groupings to create conversation areas and make sure there is a clear path from room to room. The placement of your furniture should make the space appear more spacious and comfortable. You can also arrange furniture in a way that shows how the space can be used. For example, create a cozy reading nook in a bedroom or a home office in a spare room. Lastly, if your house has a beautiful backyard or a grand fireplace for example, highlight these features by arranging furniture in a welcoming way.

Let In Natural Light
During the spring and summer months, we have sunshine on our side!
Open your curtains or blinds and let in as much natural light as possible. Daylight has the power to make your home appear larger, brighter and more inviting. If the weather allows for it, open up a few windows to allow a nice breeze to come inside to help the home to feel fresh and open.

Add Finishing Touches
Lastly, add a few finishing touches to make your home feel warm and inviting to the buyer. Small additions like throw pillows, blankets, and a vase with fresh flowers can make the space feel cozy and welcoming. Staging your home can take some time and effort but can make a significant difference in how quickly your home sells and how much money you get for it. With these tips, you can present your home in its best light and impress potential buyers during all of your showings!
